Receive as the Patch draws it, at default values: inlets on the left, outlets on the right.

Receive is the other end of a wireless cable. Name the same bus as a Send in this definition and its signal appears at the Receive's output.

What it does#

A Receive has no parameters. Its single output takes the type and lane count of the signal connected to the matching Send, so it can carry a mono tone, a stereo bundle or, once those domains exist, video, control and MIDI. The compiler lowers each Receive to a direct connection from the Send's driver, so nothing runs at playback. Several Receives may listen to one bus; each is an independent pick-up point and none of them sum.

When to use it#

Use it wherever you would otherwise drag a long cable: feeding the same source into several effect chains, bringing a shared modulation or bed into a distant corner of the patch, or picking up a bus to meter it.

Parameters#

This node has no numeric parameters.

Tips#

  • A named Receive whose bus has no Send in this definition is rejected; an unnamed Receive, or one whose Send is unconnected, stays silent.
  • To mix two Receives, feed them into a Mixer; the mix is explicit so the Mix drawer can show it.
  • Use Select channels after a Receive to take one lane of a wide bus.

Help patches

Each help patch is an ordinary Toy that teaches one idea. The diagram shows the Patch; the preview shows its Frame. Open it in TuneToys to play and edit it.

1. One bus, two listeners

beginner Teaches: buses

Two Receives pick up the same bus: one dry, one filtered, summed at the output.

Patch: Oscillator audio output connected to Send signal input. Receive “dry” signal output connected to Mixer dry.in input. Receive “wet” signal output connected to Filter audio input. Filter audio output connected to Mixer filter.in input. Mixer audio output connected to Patch outputs audio input.
Connections as text
  • Oscillator audio output connected to Send signal input
  • Receive “dry” signal output connected to Mixer dry.in input
  • Receive “wet” signal output connected to Filter audio input
  • Filter audio output connected to Mixer filter.in input
  • Mixer audio output connected to Patch outputs audio input
  • Both Receives name the bus 'lead'. Each one is an independent pick-up point.
  • Receives never sum. Two listeners feed a Mixer, which is where the mix happens.

  • Send Name a bus and send a signal to it. Every Receive with the same name in this definition hears it.
  • Mixer Sum up to 32 channels, each with gain, pan, mute and solo, into one mix with a master level. Plug a cable in to add a channel.
  • Select channels Extract a contiguous channel range. Use several selectors to split a bundle.
