Keyboard turns the on-screen piano and computer typing into MIDI notes. It is the face of the piano widget.
What it does#
Notes played on a piano widget bound to this node, or typed on the computer keyboard, leave as a MIDI cable. It has no input and no parameters. Because it belongs to the host, it is driven by the person playing the Toy rather than by the signal graph.
When to use it#
Use it as the note source for Polyphonic instrument, Wavetable or any chain of MIDI processors. Pair it with MIDI in through MIDI merge to accept both playing styles.
Ports#
| Port | Direction | Signal | Lanes |
|---|---|---|---|
midi | Output | MIDI | 16 MIDI channels |
Parameters#
This node has no numeric parameters.
Tips#
- Typing and the on-screen piano play the same notes; octave and range are set by the Frame's piano widget.
- Put processors such as Transpose between the keyboard and the instrument.

Help patches
Each help patch is an ordinary Toy that teaches one idea. The diagram shows the Patch; the preview shows its Frame. Open it in TuneToys to play and edit it.

- Keyboard makes MIDI from the piano widget and typing.
- The MIDI cable goes to the instrument, which makes the sound.
Related nodes
- MIDI in A logical MIDI input port. The host binds it to a device or the DAW's MIDI bus; the Toy never stores a device.
- Polyphonic instrument Eight owned, velocity-sensitive oscillator voices with ADSR, sustain and MPE, played from a MIDI cable in the Toy's tuning.
- Transpose Shift note numbers by semitones and octaves, clamped to the MIDI range.
