Make your first browser synthesizer

Explore oscillator frequency, level and filtering with a playable sine-wave instrument template.

Template: Little Sine. You will learn: oscillator frequency and level, and a low-pass tone control.

  1. Open Little Sine and preview its continuous oscillator at a comfortable listening level.
  2. Change Frequency to hear how oscillator rate controls pitch.
  3. Change Level to compare amplitude without changing frequency.
  4. Lower Tone to explore the low-pass filter after the oscillator.
  5. Create your own copy and inspect the oscillator and filter in Patch. Exposed parameters connect them to the Frame controls.
  6. Save the Toy, then publish a playable page when you are ready to share it. This example is a continuous sound source, not a note-triggered keyboard instrument.

For the nodes involved, see Oscillator and Low-pass filter.

The template

Explore a continuous sine oscillator in your browser. Frequency changes its pitch, Level changes its amplitude, and Tone filters its output. This starter generates sound directly; it is not a keyboard or polyphonic note instrument.

Controls

  • Frequency changes the oscillator pitch in hertz.
  • Level controls the output amplitude. Start low when listening.
  • Tone changes the low-pass cutoff applied after the oscillator.
