Camera as the Patch draws it, at default values: inlets on the left, outlets on the right.

Camera is the Toy's webcam source. It outputs one video stream and is the usual starting point for filters, keying and sensing.

What it does#

The Toy names a logical camera in data.label (for example Camera A); the host binds that label to a real device after the person allows it, and the camera prompts when the Toy is played. Only the label is stored in the Toy, never a device id. The output is one stream of frames, paced by the camera: the newest frame wins and slow consumers drop frames rather than queue them. The Toy never records or uploads the camera.

When to use it#

Use it as the picture source for Color, Chroma key and the sensing nodes. Use Screen capture for a window or tab instead.

mirrorMirror0 to 11linearFlip the image horizontally so the person sees themselves as in a mirror. Choices: 0 As captured, 1 Mirrored.
  • label: text.

Mirror (mirror)#

Flips the picture left to right, like a mirror. On by default so moving your hand right moves it right on screen.

Tips#

  • Press Play to start the camera; the browser asks permission first.
  • Declare no device ids: the label is the only thing the Toy keeps.
  • Video needs the browser's WebGPU video engine. The Player and exports do not run video yet and report it unavailable. To see a video output, bind a live Screen in the Frame to it.

Help patches

Each help patch is an ordinary Toy that teaches one idea. The diagram shows the Patch; the preview shows its Frame. Open it in TuneToys to play and edit it.
