Control to MIDI sends control lanes as MIDI controllers: lane 1 to the first CC number, lane 2 to the next, with one message per change.
What it does#
Each input lane becomes a MIDI controller. Lane 1 is sent on First CC, lane 2 on the next number, and so on. A message goes out only when a lane's value changes, on the MIDI channel set by Channel. Lane values from 0 to 1 cover the full 0 to 127 controller range.
When to use it#
Use it to move outside hardware or other software with a Toy's control signals, for example an LFO from Control LFO sent to MIDI out.
Ports#
| Port | Direction | Signal | Lanes |
|---|---|---|---|
control | Input | Control | Inferred from the cable |
midi | Output | MIDI | 16 MIDI channels |
Parameters#
| Parameter | Label | Range | Default | Unit | Scale | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
cc | First CC | 0 to 127 | 1 | linear | Controller number for lane 1; following lanes use the following numbers. | |
channel | Channel | 1 to 16 | 1 | linear | MIDI channel of the messages. |
First CC (cc)#
The controller number for lane 1, 0 to 127. Following lanes use the following numbers.
Channel (channel)#
The MIDI channel of the messages, 1 to 16.
Tips#
- Smooth steppy sources first with Smooth to avoid sending large jumps.
- A bundle running past controller 127 has no controller to carry its extra lanes.

Help patches
Each help patch is an ordinary Toy that teaches one idea. The diagram shows the Patch; the preview shows its Frame. Open it in TuneToys to play and edit it.

A control LFO becomes controller messages at a MIDI output.
Connections as text
- Oscillator audio output connected to Patch outputs audio input
- Control LFO control output connected to Control to MIDI control input
- Control to MIDI midi output connected to MIDI out midi input
- The LFO lane goes out as controller messages on the chosen channel.
- The MIDI output port is bound to a device by the host.
Related nodes
- MIDI to control Turn MIDI into six control lanes: pitch, gate, velocity, bend, pressure and one CC, with last-note priority.
- MIDI out A logical MIDI output port. The host binds it to a device or the DAW; messages leave at their sample offsets.
- Scale Map a control range onto another with a curve, clamp and inversion. Depth and offset for any modulation.
