# Receive

> Pick up a named bus without a cable. Its type and width follow whatever drives the Send.

Source: https://docs.tune.toys/nodes/bus.receive/

Receive is the other end of a wireless cable. Name the same bus as a Send in this definition and its signal appears at the Receive's output.

## What it does

A Receive has no parameters. Its single output takes the type and lane count of the signal connected to the matching Send, so it can carry a mono tone, a stereo bundle or, once those domains exist, video, control and MIDI. The compiler lowers each Receive to a direct connection from the Send's driver, so nothing runs at playback. Several Receives may listen to one bus; each is an independent pick-up point and none of them sum.

## When to use it

Use it wherever you would otherwise drag a long cable: feeding the same source into several effect chains, bringing a shared modulation or bed into a distant corner of the patch, or picking up a bus to meter it.

## Ports

<!-- ports:start -->

| Port     | Direction | Signal                | Lanes                   |
| -------- | --------- | --------------------- | ----------------------- |
| `signal` | Output | Any (follows the bus) | Inferred from the cable |

## Tips

- A named Receive whose bus has no Send in this definition is rejected; an unnamed Receive, or one whose Send is unconnected, stays silent.
- To mix two Receives, feed them into a [Mixer](https://docs.tune.toys/nodes/std.mixer/); the mix is explicit so the Mix drawer can show it.
- Use [Select channels](https://docs.tune.toys/nodes/std.select/) after a Receive to take one lane of a wide bus.
