# Paint surface

> A transparent surface the paint widget draws on, as one video stream to composite over anything.

Source: https://docs.tune.toys/nodes/video.paint/

Paint surface is a transparent video surface that the paint widget (coming later) draws on.

## What it does

The output is one transparent stream, so it composites over anything. Strokes belong to the surface; the paint widget that draws them is planned and is not available yet, so today the surface stays empty.

## When to use it

Use it as an overlay layer in a [Composite](https://docs.tune.toys/nodes/video.composite/) for annotations and drawing once the widget lands.

## Ports

<!-- ports:start -->

| Port    | Direction | Signal | Lanes |
| ------- | --------- | ------ | ----- |
| `video` | Output    | Video  | 1     |

<!-- ports:end -->

## Parameters

<!-- parameters:start -->

| Parameter | Label | Range  | Default | Unit | Scale  | Notes                                                    |
| --------- | ----- | ------ | ------- | ---- | ------ | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| `clear`   | Clear | 0 to 1 | 0       |      | linear | Rising to 1 wipes the surface. Choices: 0 Keep, 1 Clear. |

<!-- parameters:end -->

### Clear (`clear`)

Wipes everything drawn on the surface when it goes high.

## Tips

- Place it as a top layer so the picture beneath stays visible.
- Video needs the browser's WebGPU video engine. The Player and exports do not run video yet and report it unavailable. To see a video output, bind a live Screen in the Frame to it.
