# Crossfade

> Blend two signals with one balance control: 0 plays A, 1 plays B.

Source: https://docs.tune.toys/nodes/std.crossfade/

Crossfade blends two audio signals with a single balance control.

## What it does

The node has two inputs, A and B, and one output. Balance 0 passes input A, balance 1 passes input B, and values between blend them. It is useful for dry/wet-style blends and for switching between two sources smoothly. An input that is not connected is silent.

## When to use it

Use it to pick between two sources or two processing chains with one knob. To add several signals together at independent levels, use [Mixer](https://docs.tune.toys/nodes/std.mixer/).

## Ports

<!-- ports:start -->

| Port    | Direction | Signal | Lanes                   |
| ------- | --------- | ------ | ----------------------- |
| `a`     | Input     | Audio  | Inferred from the cable |
| `b`     | Input     | Audio  | Inferred from the cable |
| `audio` | Output    | Audio  | Inferred from the cable |

<!-- ports:end -->

## Parameters

| --------- | ------- | ------ | ------- | ---- | ------ | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| `balance` | Balance | 0 to 1 | 0.5     |      | linear | Blend between inputs A and B. 0 selects A; 1 selects B. |

### Balance (`balance`)

Blend between input A and input B, from 0 to 1. 0 selects A and 1 selects B. The center position blends both.

## Tips

- Feed the same source into A and a processed copy into B to build your own dry/wet control.
- Both inputs must have matching channel counts unless an adaptation policy is set. See [Multichannel audio](https://docs.tune.toys/concepts/multichannel/).
