MIDI in is a logical MIDI input port. The host binds it to a device or the DAW's MIDI bus; the Toy never stores a device.

## What it does

The node has a short text label (up to 64 characters) that names the port inside the Toy. The person running the Toy chooses which device or host bus feeds each labelled port in their MIDI settings, so the same Toy works with any controller. The Toy keeps the label and nothing about the hardware. The node has no parameters and no input.

## When to use it

Use it when a Toy should accept notes and controllers from an external keyboard or from a DAW. Keep one MIDI in per distinct source and combine several with [MIDI merge](https://docs.tune.toys/nodes/midi.merge/).

## Ports

<!-- ports:start -->

| Port   | Direction | Signal | Lanes            |
| ------ | --------- | ------ | ---------------- |
| `midi` | Output    | MIDI   | 16 MIDI channels |

<!-- ports:end -->

## Parameters

<!-- parameters:start -->

This node has no numeric parameters.

<!-- parameters:end -->

<!-- data:start -->

- `label`: text.

<!-- data:end -->

## Tips

- If nothing plays, check that MIDI access was allowed and that the port is bound to a device.
- Device choices are local settings and never travel with the Toy.
