## Starting a Toy

Every **New Toy** action opens one chooser: **Effect** (a stereo effect with one level control), **Instrument** (an eight-voice instrument with a piano), **Template** (Warm Echo, Little Sine or Two Gain Stages), **Blank** (connected input and output, no nodes), and, when generation is enabled, AI recipes. Creating a Toy gives it a fresh identity and keeps what you were working on.

## Layout

The workspace is a set of docked panels: **Patch**, **Frame Design**, **Preview**, **Source JSON**, and the tool panels **Properties**, **Layers**, **History** and **Docs**. Drag a tab to group it with another, to an edge to split, or outside the dock to float it. You can float up to six panels, save named layouts, and undo layout changes separately from Toy edits.

Layout is stored in your browser. It is never part of a Toy, a release or its history.

## Spotlight and shortcuts

- Double-click empty canvas, or press `Cmd/Ctrl+K`, to search nodes and place one where you clicked.
- `Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+P` opens the command palette.
- `F1` or `?` on a selected node opens its documentation in the Docs panel. See [How help links work](https://docs.tune.toys/manual/troubleshooting/#help-links).
- `Cmd/Ctrl+S` saves; `Cmd/Ctrl+Z` and `Shift+Cmd/Ctrl+Z` undo and redo. History keeps the last 100 edits of the session.

## Recovery

The browser keeps an automatic recovery copy of the Toy you have open. It is separate from a device save and from an account draft. See [Saving and publishing](https://docs.tune.toys/manual/saving-publishing/) for the four states.
