# Patch

> Add nodes, connect cables, set parameters and reuse patches as groups.

Source: https://docs.tune.toys/manual/patch/ (updated 2026-11-01)

A Patch is a graph of **nodes** joined by **cables**. Sound flows from outputs to inputs; the Patch ends at the Toy's output.

## Adding nodes

Open Spotlight (`Cmd/Ctrl+K`), search by name or tag, and press Enter. The palette beside the canvas lists the same nodes by category. Every node has a page in the [Nodes reference](https://docs.tune.toys/nodes/) with its ports, parameters and playable help patches.

## Connecting

Drag from an output port to an input port. A cable is accepted only if the whole graph stays valid: channel counts must match or be inferable, an input takes one cable unless the node mixes, and feedback loops need a delay. If a cable is rejected, the editor says why and leaves the graph unchanged. See [Cables and channels](https://docs.tune.toys/concepts/cables/) and [Multichannel audio](https://docs.tune.toys/concepts/multichannel/).

## Parameters

Select a node to edit its parameters in **Properties**. A parameter can be exposed as a public control so a Frame can bind to it. Choice parameters (such as a filter type) are discrete and cannot be modulated.

## Groups, subpatches and instances

Select nodes and group them to make a reusable definition. Each use of a definition is an **instance** with its own parameter values and audio state, so two copies of the same gain stage stay independent. See [Groups and reusable patches](https://docs.tune.toys/concepts/groups/).

## Undo

Every accepted gesture is one undoable step. Previews while you drag are inert: Escape or releasing outside cancels without changing anything.
