# Frames

> A Frame is the playable face of a Toy: controls bound to its public parameters.

Source: https://docs.tune.toys/concepts/frames/

A Frame is a layout of controls such as knobs, sliders, buttons and a piano that sits on top of a patch.

## What it does

Each control is bound to a public parameter of the definition the Frame shows, and that parameter targets one or more node parameters. Moving a knob changes those parameters in the running Toy. A Frame does not process audio. One shared renderer draws every Frame, in the editor, in published Toys and in previews.

## Tips

- Keep a Frame small and focused on the controls a player needs.
- Controls can be hidden, locked and organized in layers without changing the sound.
- A piano control sends notes to a node such as the [Polyphonic instrument](https://docs.tune.toys/nodes/std.poly/).
